What is Head Start

Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood program. In Head Start, children don’t just learn how to count or identify letters (though that’s certainly an important part of the curriculum). Many people don’t know that our preschool experience also includes health services and screenings, teaches good nutrition and social skills, supports parents, and promotes physical activity, so children improve their motor skills. It is a safe learning environment where children are encouraged to explore their world and learn the essential skills they will need to succeed later in life.

Do I qualify for Head Start?

We would be happy to discuss if Head Start services are right for you and your child. There are many ways you can qualify for Head Start, but in general, you must meet income guidelines, reside in Marshall, Hardin, Poweshiek, Tama, or Story counties (excluding Ames), and your child must be between 3 and 4 years old by September 15.
